LASIK (laser in-situ keratomileusis) has become one of the most successful procedures to correct refractive errors, replacing glasses and contact lenses. There are no precedents for the number of procedures that are being performed Worldwide. Over one million eyes are being treated this year alone. The rapid return of functional vision, lack of discomfort, and the overall stability and accuracy of the treatment have led to this astounding success. The risk/benefit ratio for most patients exceeds that of contact lenses. Although the FDA has determined the excimer laser vision correction procedure as "safe and effective", there are still many critical factors that must be considered in order for each patient to achieve the best possible result.

What is Custom LASIK?

Custom LASIK is an advanced type of LASIK surgery that treats vision problems including high order aberrations. The traditional LASIK procedure can’t correct high order aberrations such as glare and halo. Traditional LASIK can correct low order aberrations such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. High order aberrations can’t be measured with standard refraction, and are usually measured by an abertometer. These measurements are then converted to a wavefront map of your eye, and this map is what allows Dr. Foulkes to correct both low order and high order aberrations with Custom LASIK. Since the wavefront map shows your detailed vision correction needs, giving you the best possible vision!

How is Custom LASIK different from LASIK?

Zyoptix Custom LASIK allows you to receive a customized vision correction procedure that is completely tailored to your individual eye. Dr. Foulkes knows that not all eyes have the same vision problems, and not every vision problem can be corrected by standard LASIK. Custom LASIK will correct many high order aberrations that can cause problems in Tradition LASIK patients.

With the Custom LASIK you will receive the best possible correction for your eyes. Because your Dr. Foulkes will take a specific 3D wavefront map of your eye errors, you have a greater chance of receiving correction that will make your eyesight 20/20 or better.
